3/24/2003 Captain Dude!!! Hopedale / Delacroix Island Fishing Report!!!

John Munlder, Chuck Hodge, Charles Wallace, Rod Wallace and Terry “BULL RED” Burt came in from Alabama and stayed in the BAYOU CAMP.  We started down Dudenhefer’s Bayou in search of some trout; we had Live Minnows, Dead Shrimp, Live Crabs and lots of lures. We made several stops and the trout were scattered a few here and there. Looking for clear water was one of the most important factors in catching some trout. The trout ranged from 12” to 22 1/2” long. Mr. Terry “BULL RED” Burt hooked up on a 33” BULL RED that had everyone moving out of his way this BULL was dragging Terry from one side to the back of the boat to the other side!!! It’s a lot of fun catching these BULL RED in shallow water.  The next bad boy was an 8’+ ALLIGATOR GARFISH.  Mr. John Munlder got the Southern Flounder award and had a great time with some trout and reds. Chuck Hodge, Charles Wallace and Rod Wallace was on the trout using Live Minnows two foot under a Cajun thunder cork and Mirror lures.

These Dudes had a great memorable trip!!!
Thanks again,
Captain Dude!!!

3/21/2003 Captain Dude!!! Hopedale / Delacroix Island Fishing Report!!!

JA Cates, Stephen Kruse and I started down Dudenhefer’s Bayou in search of some trout; we had Live Minnows, Dead Shrimp, Live Crabs and lots of lures. We were even equipped with some wade fishing gear to fish on Breton Island if the weather permitted. We made several stops and the trout were nice size but the action was slow and the wind was blowing 20+ out of the South. Stephen Kruse had a real nice 19’ trout right next to the boat and he got off, you should have seen Stephen face of disappointment, but I drove the net down deep and came up with the trout, I saved the day, (HI FIVE)!!!. Then Stephen Kruse hooked up on a Bull Red that had him all over the boat. Shallow water and lite tackle makes catching these Bull Red FUN!!!
Looking for clear water was one of the most important factors in catching any amount of trout. We were using Live Minnows two foot under a Cajun thunder cork and Mirror lures. The wind had finally layed down around 11:00 so we went to Breton Island to get on some Big Trout and Bull Red action on live Minnows, Salt Water Assassin and Mirror lures. CHECK OUT THE GREAT PICTURES!!!
“Wade fishing was not going well do to Mississippi River water delivered by the South -Southwest wind. The wind had let up so we were able to run out in a hurry with the New 225 Honda – Fishmaster combo. Stephen Kruse, Captain Dude, and I gave the beach at Breton Island a quick try before hitting the rigs for the drum/sheepshead. After checking the water on the inside and finding it milky we returned to the outside and walked towards the boat. Standing out on the second bar I continued casting offshore, throwing the salt water assassin with a 3/8 ounce Jig head with glow hot tip tail as far as it would go. All at once it seemed I hooked a freight train going towards Cuba. The Shimano Calcutta’s smooth drag sung a happy tune as my Power Pro braid let me know that I’d connected. After stripping off 70 yards on the initial run, I began to get a little back with each pump and turn. Walking towards the beach was the only option as I wasn’t carrying a net. The fish’s runs grew short and finally I was able to beach the 38″ Bull Redfish. Many Thanx Capt. Dude for a great trip and can’t wait until next time….JA Cates”.
